In August 2025, Stripe released an observation report indicating that demand for Japanese products in China’s cross-border e-commerce market continues to rise. According to estimates from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), China’s cross-border e-commerce market size is expected to exceed USD 214 billion by 2025.

The growth of this sector is driven by several factors, including consumer preference for high-quality origins, the strong cost-performance ratio of Japanese goods, and repeat purchases following tourism experiences.

The report also highlighted that China’s consumption patterns are evolving toward live-stream shopping, mobile payment methods (such as Alipay and WeChat Pay), and online-merge-offline (OMO) retail models. For Japanese companies to succeed in the Chinese market, they must adapt to these features and integrate payment solutions with tailored marketing channels.
